‘Girl In Yellow Jumper’ Movie Star, Loukman Ali, to Speak At Uganda @60 Business Conference

Powerful personalities in the arts, creatives, sports and film industry will speak at the much-anticipated Uganda @60 business conference.

The event, which will be presided over by Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, will be held on October 12, 2022 at Victoria Ballroom, Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme, “COVID-19, Conflict and Energy crisis: The lessons for Uganda in managing geopolitical risk.” 

Loukman Ali, whose film, ‘The Girl in the Yellow Jumper’, will deliver insightful perspectives of how the modern film industry is being promoted in modern countries and money it generates for those economies. 

The Ugandan policy makers at the event are expected to draw lessons from presentations of these experts for implementation. 

Loukman is a Ugandan screenwriter and film director with a background in drawing graphic arts. 

At the age of 8, he fell in love with filmmaking and started learning various skill sets by watching “How To” videos on YouTube. 

Although he mainly works in the marketing field directing TV commercials, he uses his spare time to create feature and short films to continuously improve his craft. 

Through this self motivated training and his graphic art background, he has honed his skills as a director, editor, cinematographer and animator and looks forward to continue making genre films and eventually creating international TV series.

Also expected at the event is Cedric Babu, President Uganda Tennis Association. 

The former national tennis player and Davis Cup Captain will speak about creation of jobs for the young people in the arts, sports and film industry. 

Cedric is the producer of ‘Beneath the Lies’ that was nominated at the Africa Magic Movie Awards.

On the same panel, Uganda Registration Services Bureau Registrar General, Mercy Kainobwisho is expected to make an insight on intellectual property as a bedrock for a stronger arts and creatives sector. 

The panel will have sports promoter William Blick, producer Cedric Babu, producer Rebecca Amulen, film star Loukman Ali and Mustaque Abdullah (cinematography). 

“These panelists will discuss ideas on improving the arts and creative industry and job creation,” said Jomo Mugasha, the coordinator of the event organized by Kampala Economic Renaissance Foundation.

Mugasha said cultural occupations is one of the topics to be discussed at the event as the industry has created millions of jobs across the world. 

The industry includes creative and performing artists, authors and journalists, architects, photographers, interior designers and decorators, as well as music, arts and language teachers, librarians, archivists and curators, and linguists such as translators and interpreters. 

The notion also covers technicians in galleries, museums, libraries, broadcasting and audiovisual sectors, musical instrument makers and tuners, jewelry and precious-metal workers and various crafts workers.

The red-carpet event will bring together influential political and business leaders, entrepreneurs, development partners, senior government officials from regulatory bodies and business facilitation, innovators and selected youth leaders. 

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba will deliver a speech on the “Role of diplomacy in enhancing regional peace and stability for economic development.”

The audience will brainstorm on the post-COVID economic environment; East African pipeline geopolitics; emerging technologies; cyber security; health; regional trade and manufacturing and propose innovative ideas of creating 1 million new soft jobs among others.

Kampala Economic Renaissance Foundation is organizing the event in partnership with Uganda Investment Authority, Ministry of Trade, Speke Resort, Suubula Online, KFC, Fountain Publishers and Kiryandongo Sugar company, UBC and NBS among others.  

The business conference will be covered live on NBS, AfroMobile and UBC starting at 7:00am on October 12, 2022.
