AS Kigali Fires Mike Mutebi, Jackson Mayanja

1 Mins read

Rwanda Premier League side AS Kigali has sacked Ugandan tactician, Mike Hillary Mutebi, just four months after his appointment as their head coach.

The club management unveiled Mutebi and his deputy Jackson Mayanja alias Miamia in January this year on a two-year contract.

However, the club has relieved the duo of their duties citing poor performance.

Mutebi, who tresses his coaching style from the former Netherlands player John Cruyff commonly known as the tic-tac style, often identified by over possession of the ball, has failed to impress in Kigali.

“As Kigali announces that Mike Hillary Mutebi has been Relieved of his Duties as the Head Coach of the Club as well as his Assistant Mr. Jackson Mayanja. It is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision,” reads part of the statement.

Adding that; “While the past few weeks have been disappointing they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past months to rebuild the foundations for long-term success. We thank him and his Assistant for the Work they have done with the Club.”

In the 13 games that Mutebi coached, he only managed to win three, drew seven, and lost three games. He leaves the club sitting 5th on the log with 37 points after 24 matches.

It is not yet clear whether Mutebi will return to Uganda Premier League.

He previously managed KCCA FC where he attained three league titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups and One CECAFA Club Cup over the last five years making him the most successful manager in the Club’s history.
