Former Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and the current minister for East African Affairs, has revealed that she has no interests in running for the speakership again, Ug Mirror reports.
“Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, after consulting a number of senior NRM officials and allies, appealed to them to let her continue with her national duty to realize the East African integration. She will not stand for Speaker of Parliament,” said Dickens Okello who is a close Aide of Kadaga.
After the death of Speaker Oulanya, rumours started circulation on social media like wild fire on how Kadaga is set to bounce back as the speaker of Parliament.
As the rumours went viral, Kadaga joined other people from all walks of like to mourn speaker Oulanyah.
“At this trying moment, I send sincere condolences to the children, the mother and other members of Rt Hon Oulanyah s family as well as friends and relatives The NRM party, the Parliament and the Country have lost a key leader Condolences to HE the President,” said Kadaga on March 20,2022.
In the race for speakership is Deputy Speaker Hon Anita Among, Deputy Attorney General, Jackson Kafuuzi, Arua Central MP Jackson Atima Buti, Dokolo South County MP, Felix Okot Ogong, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi, Theodore Ssekikubo, Lwemiyaga County and Minister of State for Defence, Jacob Oboth Oboth.
While on the opposition ticket, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa and Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda.
Parliament is expected to vote the new speaker come this Friday March 25, 2022.
