The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Diana Atwine, says there’s need for Ugandans to join efforts to combat hygiene bred diseases.
Her comments come as the country commemorates “Sanitation Week,” that was launched last Tuesday at Bulamagi Sub-County Headquarters in Iganga district.
“It is to continue to remind Ugandans that it is our individual responsibility to keep ourselves and the environment clean to reduce the burden of hygiene related diseases,” Dr Atwine told this websitw.
She added, “Diseases of hygiene can be preventable and therefore we all have a duty to contribute to elimination of such diseases . Uganda has made tremendous progress but we must do more to reach all our targets in disease prevention.”
It is held under the theme: “Good Sanitation and Hygiene for strengthening Covid19 response.”
Around 2.5 billion people in developing countries do not have access to basic sanitation. This is the cause of some of the biggest environmental and health problems facing people living in poor communities for example transmission of diseases and infections.
Emphasis is now being put on clean water sources to prevent hygiene related diseases.
