The Commander of Uganda’s Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met with Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Meseret Alemtsehay.

“We both reaffirmed the solid and friendly relations between the two countries and also resolved to continue close cooperation in the pursuit of peace and security in our respective countries and in the region,” Gen Muhoozi said after the meeting.

According to a tweet by the Ethiopian embassy, Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Gen Muhoozi on Saturday, where the two discussed a wide range of issues including how to strengthen regional stability.

Details of what they discussed are still scanty although the tweet gave a general picture of the discussions.

Gen Muhoozi has previously voiced his support for the people of Tigray, the region in Ethiopia where the TPLF rebels who are currently in a awar with the Ethiopian government, hail.

The meeting comes a week after what analysts say is diplomatic coup by Gen Muhoozi on the stalemate in Uganda – Rwanda relations.

Muhoozi who is also President Yoweri Museveni’s son, visited Rwanda last Saturday and held talks with President Paul Kagame on finding a solution to the two countrys’ diplomatic problems, prompting the neighboring nation to open her birder with Uganda.

The Gatuna border which was closed in 2019, will be reopened on Monday 31st January 2022.
