The government will lift the curfew next week when schools reopen.  Schools will reopen on January 10 after two years of closure following the outbreak of covid-19.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Media Centre, the Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, said that the curfew will be lifted to enable the parents to have adequate time to take learners to school.

According to Katumba starting January 10, the vehicles will be allowed to move beyond the curfew hours to ensure that the learners report safely without fear of curfew.

Addressing the nation on Friday, President Museveni said that curfew will be lifted two weeks after the reopening of schools.

On Monday, the Ministry of Education and Sports released a new plan detailing specific reporting back to school dates for boarding schools in the Kampala Metropolitan area.

Ismail Mulindwa, the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, in the Ministry of Education warned students in boarding schools in Wakiso, Kampala, Mukono, and Mpigi against reporting to school earlier than Monday.

Gen Katumba also said that to ensure safety, parents, and learners should only board vehicles from the designated taxi parks and bus terminals. He said that police and other security personnel will be deployment around taxi parks and bus terminals to guide people that may need guidance.

He advised transporters not to hike fares during the week as learners resume school.
