A man in Kanungu district is in trouble for alleged slitting the throat of his girlfriend for planning to marry another man. Forty-year-old, Nicholas Ampereza, a resident of Kanyambeho village in Nyakinoni Sub County is locked up at Kihihi police station.
The Kanyambeho village Local Council One Chairperson, Baker Turyatunga, says that Ampereza developed a quarrel with his girlfriend, Peace Namara, 27, a bar attendant in Kanyambeho trading centre around 06:00 PM on Monday.
Turyatunga explains that the quarrel erupted after Ampereza accused Namara of starting plans to marry another man whose identity was not revealed.
He says that Ampereza protested the move, saying there is no way how Namara can marry another man yet they have been cohabiting for a long time and he has been financing her survival.
According to Turyatunga, it is in this process that Ampereza got a machete (panga) and cut Namara’s throat. Ely Maate, the Kigezi region Police Spokesperson, says that Namara died instantly because of the deep cut.
Maate says Police has since recovered the blood-stained machete that the suspect used to cut Namara’s throat. He says the deceased’s body is lying at Kihihi Health Centre IV pending postmortem.
Kihihi police station has entered a murder case vide CRB 001/ 2022.
