Martha Babirye Beats Kabasweka To Win 2021 Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open

1 Mins read

Martha Babirye was on Frida crowned the Uganda golf club ladies open after beating Peace Kabasweka in a crunch final at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.

The four-day tournament, sponsored by National Medical Stores (NMS), was organised to test the players ahead of the Uganda Open slated for next week in Entebbe.

Babirye, who is also the reigning Uganda Open champion, tied with Kabasweka at 231 Gross before going back for the sudden death.

“My first day wasn’t so good and my second day was fair, actually I’ve been improving everyday until today decided who to win because we were in the pressure group and I had to fight the last hole and that’s why I had a tie up,” an elated Babirye said after her win.

She added, “I thank National Medical Stores because it’s hard to get sponsors especially these two years where we have had COVID. Companies and individuals are struggling so I thank the main sponsors.”

Babirye is now looking forward to winning the Uganda Open for the third time running. Over 100 golfers took part in the event whose professional category was won by Ronald Rugumayo.

While giving his remarks at the famous 19th hole, NMS’ Chief Stores and Operations Officer Paul Okware said they bankrolled this edition due to their commitment to raise awareness about the increasing number of Non-Communicable Diseases.

“We are dedicated to using Sports as a vessel to create awareness about prevention rather than cure by exercising regularly and emphasizing early detection through regular check-ups, we can reduce the number of patients in our hospitals and Ultimately achieve a healthy population.”
