Uganda police has arrested the most wanted terror suspect in the bombing of Digida Pork Joint and Swift Safaris bus weeks ago, Ug Mirror reports.
Joint security operatives arrested Muwonge Yusuf, a 28-year-old from Kalule, Bombo road on Saturday night.
He is currently detained at Special Investigations Unit, Kireka.
Uganda police spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that Muwonge Yusuf escaped arrest a few days ago after they raided his hideout in Kireka.
“We have launched a serious manhunt for Muwonge Yusuf, who appears to have been operating in the same domestic terror cell, with Matovu Isaac alias Muzafaru, the suicide bomber,” said Enanga.
He also revealed that upon raiding his Kireka hideout located in Kireka Bbira Village, Nakaboga Parish in Wakiso District, they only found assembled improvised electronic device, which appeared ready for planting.
“We believe the dangerous terrorist, Muwonge Yusuf, escaped moments before the raid on his hideout. He however, abandoned an assembled improvised electronic device, which appeared ready for planting.
“Our bomb experts managed to disrupt the explosive device and rendered it safe. The device was established to have; an electronic detonator, main charges, ball bearings, nails, batteries, black insulation tapes and a switch.
“The hallmarks were similar to the detonated improvised electronic devices, in Ttula Kawempe, Komamboga and on the Swift safaris bus.
It is against this background that Police decided to arrest his landlord, identified as Kagwa Umar, for harboring the dangerous suspect at his home in Kireka –Bbira
Ug mirror understands that the arrest of Kagwa Umar helped police in tracing the new hideout of Muwonge Yusuf.
