The Health Ministry has responded to reports that city businessman, Hamis Kiggundu, bought vaccines for his employees.
According to a brief statement by the ministry, the reports are false as no vaccine was sold to him, saying the jabs are free.
“No money was paid to anyone as vaccines are free for all eligible Ugandans. Lets report responsibly,” the statement says in part.
BELOW IS THE FULL STATEMENT
On issue of alleged secret selling of vaccines to city businessman Ham as published in today’s Daily Monitor;
It should be noted that there’s been low turnout for vaccination in kampala majorly due to the lockdown so most gazzeted facilities at KCCA did not realize many people turning out for vaccination.
The Ministry of Health therefore adjusted their rollout plan to allocate more vaccines to wakiso district where the largest population of kampala dwellers live.
During handover of his contribution, Ham offered to mobilize eligible people among business community for vaccination, transporting them and ensuring SOPs are maintained in kampala, which his team did.
This vaccination exercise has no linkage to the donation he offered as his contribution will be merged with the efforts of government to procure vaccines, a process which is underway.
Similar vaccination outreach engagements were done by URA, IGGs office, and UNOC at their offices, not only with Ham entreprises.
