The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga, has revealed that he is willing to cross the political aisle boundaries in the fight against graft.
Mpuuga said this while speaking on local TV NBS on Wednesday morning.
While commenting on government’s proposal to give vulnerable people cash tokens, he questioned the criteria arguing that lawmakers are also vulnerable.
“Members of Parliament are part of an infected society so they are prone and vulnerable like any other citizen. We have taken measures to size down the number of people at Parliament,” Mpuuga said.
He added, “I support the cash option because people’s tastes and preferences are different. The challenge is how you are going to get the target people to get the money. I have not understood to voucher arrangement being talked about.”
While announcing the plan, Premier Robinah Nabbanja said government had decided to give cash as opposed to food that was given when the first lockdoqn was announced last year.
