The Uganda People’s Defence Force – UPDF has arrested National Unity Platform –NUP presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine in Kalangala.
Kyagulanyi was arrested on Wednesday afternoon while he campaigned in the Lake Victoria Island District of Kalangala.
Reports indicate that he was arrested together with a number of his body guards and team members.
“The president (Robert Kyagulanyi) has been arrested in the middle of a forest. We are stranded. We can only wait for an opportunity to get out of here and look for him,” Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the NUP Vice President for Central region said.
NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi also confirmed Bobi Wine’s arrest saying they (NUP) don’t know their whereabouts.
“Yes police has arrested him together with his whole campaign team. They (police) put them in police trucks and started driving but we don’t know where they are taking them,” he said.
Security forces are yet to make a comment about the arrest.
