President Museveni is expected to commission MV Sigulu Ferry which is Uganda’s largest passenger ferry.
The Ultra-modern 300-seater ferry is expected to boost economic growth by offering faster means of transporting produce from the Islands & linking the population to markets on the mainland.
“MV Sigulu will provide a reliable means of transporting supplies such as Medical supplies; Agricultural inputs, Raw materials, etc to the Islands,” UNRA official noted.
In addition, the ferry is expected to attract investors to the Islands due to improved transport.
“Reduction in water transport related mortality rate as more people will be transported safely on the ferry instead of other risky means such as canoes.”
MV Sigulu will be connecting Islanders of Sigulu & Lolwe, over 50Kms away from mainland Namayingo District, a distance previously sailed by canoes & small engine boats.
It is worth noting that MV Sigulu is designed with a kitchen area fitted with cooking appliances and a refrigerator.
