The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers within Kampala Metropolitan area have vowed to take over Kampala and other areas occupied by the opposition come 2021 general elections.
In a function that was held at Kololo independence grounds to come up with a new strategy on how to capture the City, the party members said this time Kampala will be given to president Museveni as a gift by winning all the elective positions.
However, some party members expressed their dismay about the high turn up of members who did not qualify to run for political office in the recent party primaries.
The NRM’s communications officer, Rogers Mulindwa, said the main purpose of the gathering was to strategize and see how the party wins in Kampala in the forthcoming elections.
He said the party is now focusing on ensuring that there is Unity among the party flag bearers.
While flagging off all the party flag bearers for Kampala district, the NRM vice chairman for Buganda region, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi reminded them of the four core NRM principles including Pan-Africanism, Social economic transformation, Democracy and Nationalism which has stirred Uganda to this far.
He tasked the flag bearers to embrace unity in order to consolidate a win for the party in Kampala.
“If we are to win elections in Kampala, we need four things which I always tell you but I want to repeat them, if a party is to win an election, it needs credible candidates and we have you, look at the message you are sending to the public,” he said.
“As the vice chairman of Buganda region, we are here to fully endorse our support to the party chairman and we want to win Kampala for NRM come 2021. NRM is a mass party because we managed to come up with candidates at all positions who were chosen by the people,” he added.
He congratulated the flag bearers for successfully winning the party primaries and further congratulated them for being nominated by the Electoral Commission.
Beti Kamya, the MP aspirant Rubaga North said people of Kampala are missing service delivery because of voting the opposition who she said are selfish.
“Because members of parliament in Kampala are in opposition, they always undermine government programmes. They don’t lobby services for the people because they don’t want government to get credit among the population,” she said.
