Kyadondo East Member Of Parliament and National Unity Platform President, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi has dropped the famous People Power red beret as he unveiled his official campaign poster.
“When the struggle is over, we shall wear the victors’ crown in A NEW UGANDA,” Bobi Wine captioned his new official presidential poster.
It should be noted that recently Army and Uganda Police Force raided National Unity Platform (NUP) offices in Kamwokya in a joint operation that targeted civilians using military attires.
The red Beret is also considered an military attire.
Police spokesperson CP Fred Enanga explained that most political civilians had military attires.
“We have carried out this operation in different parts of the city. It just that some of these political parties had military attires in their offices and we had to enter and get them. Civilians having military attire contravenes both the UPDF Act and the Penal Code Act,” Mr Enanga said.
Deo Akiiki, the UPDF deputy spokesperson, also explained that “Such behaviour where you find civilians wearing attires that have the same design and colour of the military may make those people start running military groups. It started slowly but it had continued and our operation had to come at any time.”
It should be noted that NUP secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was briefly detained by police outside NBS TV office for being on set with a red beret that resembles military attire.
Other Unity Platform leaders who have abandoned the red beret include Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake Butebi.
