Ugandan Civil Rights Activist Condemn Mityana Teargas Incident

1 Mins read

Despite police apology to the Buganda Kingdom and the Catholic Church over weekend teargas in Mityana, a US based Uganda civil and minority rights activist has said that the apology is not enough.

Kalyango, 41a self-confessed NUP mobiliser said that both the police and security officials should undergo a more stringent disciplinary action to deter others to do the same especially during the forthcoming general elections.

Kalyango ‘s concern comes after a weekend cultural incident where Mbogo Clan elders were dispersed with police teargas in a prior mass led by Masaka Bishop Emeritus John Baptist Kaggwa.

Born in Luwero 4I years ago to the family of the late Lamech and Grace Lubowa, Kalyango says that the continued oppression and violation of civil, political and minority rights forced him to flee Uganda in July 2018.

This was after the 2017 anti-age limit protests which also saw him briefly detained at the infamous Nalufenya prison in Jinja.

“I will continue with  the mobilisation of the youth to see to it   that a new regime led by youthful Kyaddondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu  Bobi Wine takes over the mantle of this country’s top leadership,” he vowed.
