The UPDF has airlifted Masindi High Court judge, Justice Paul Gadenya to Kampala for treatment after being involved in a nasty accident along the Kampala – Masindi road.
He was reportedly travelling to Masindi High Court when his car collided with another at Bigando, Masindi.
“A judge travelling to Masindi high court has been involved in an accident around Bigando-Masindi. We have dispatched ambulance to support the referral,” Uganda Red Cross tweeted on Monday morning.
The accident happened less than 10 kilometres to Masindi town.
The Albertine Regional Police spokesperson, Mr Julius Hakiza said they are still investigating the cause of the accident but the judge and other victims who are yet to be identified were evacuated to Masindi-Kitara Medical Centre in Masindi town.
The wreckage of the cars has also been towed to Masindi Police station, according to Mr Hakiza.
According to judiciary, the accident was caused by the driver of the truck who reportedly joined the main road recklessly.
The judge and his driver sustained serious injuries after the accident.
“Joint emergency services coordinated by the Judiciary, Uganda Police and the UPDF evacuated the judge and his team from the accident scene,” said the Judiciary’s Permanent Secretary, Pius Bigirimana.
Judiciary’s Chief Registrar, Ms Sarah Langa Siu, said the judge and his team were first briefly admitted at Kitara Medical Centre in Masindi for first aid before being airlifted to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala for better medical attention.
“The Judiciary would like to appreciate everyone who assisted to ensure that the victims of the early morning accident get timely medical attention,” Langa said.
