Enock Barata, the head of the NRM elections tribunal has said that by Wednesday this week those who petitioned the party Electoral Commission over their grievances in the recently concluded party primaries will be in position to know their fate.
According to the tribunal, in the quick over view in regards to petitions, for the last seven days they have so far heard 450 petitions from greater Masaka, Rwenzori, Busoga, Kigezi, Lango, greater Mukono, Ankole greater Luweero and West Nile.
“We arrived at the full range of decisions which include dismissal, re-tallies looking at the forms that captured the results and recounting, we have made those decisions,” he said.
Officials said the tribunal has overturned only few election results with fresh elections to be held.
“It’s not us who are sitting here or the district chairpersons who elect. It is the people who do the elections so it is unfair for me to say that I reject a leader who was elected by the people,” he said.
The tribunal will handle over 45 petitions from Kampala, Wakiso and Elgon Region and today it will handle Karamoja and Teso Region.
The director in charge of Legal affairs -NRM, Oscar Kihika said the process of receiving the petitions was smooth and they had a deadline of Monday 5th October 2020 when to offload all the cases.
Apparently, NRM takes decisions after hearings from both sides and these decisions are made within 24 hours.
