Minister of ICT and National guidance, Hon Judith Nabakooba has revealed that government does not have enough test kits to check learners and teachers.
It should be remembered that schools will reopen on 15th October 2020.
She revealed this while holding her weekly press briefing.
“It is very difficult for me to comment about COVID-19 tests, because like you know we are looking at 12million people when candidates resume classes. These numbers are high and I don’t think we have those testing kits to cover members in such a short time,” said Nabakooba before adding that;
“What I know, the guidelines that were given by the ministry of education are sufficient enough to enable the teachers and parents work together to make sure that our children are safe.”
The minister added that teachers and students who present with signs of COVID-19 should stay at home until they get okay or seek help from the ministry of Health.
“As cases are reported or children with symptoms or teachers are presented, then I believe the ministry can move in to do the test and also identify those who could be affected in one way or the other.
“To say that everyone is going to be tested and you look at 15th, its around the corner but candidates have to begin school.
“if somebody before the commencement of the program feels unwell, I just advise them to seek help from the Ministry of Health because they are always available.”
It should be noted that as of October 03, 2020 Uganda has confirmed 8,808 cases, 81 death and 4,736 recoveries.
