State minister for Labour and former deputy Attorney General, Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana on Tuesday appeared before Ntungamo Chief Magistrate Sarah Mponye Kolya who read his charges and remanded him until September 15th when court will pronounce itself on his bail application.
Rukutana was charged with attempted murder, Inciting violence, threatening violence and assault and among other charges.
He pleaded not guilty.
Upon his remand, he was transferred from Ntungamo via Mbarara to Kitalya maximum security prison in Wakiso district.
Prisons police spokesperson, Mr Frank Baine has dissected the reasons to why the gun loving minister was brought to kitalya.
“Hon Rukutana was transferred from Ntungamo via Mbarara to Kitalya government prison and the simple reason why that transfer took place, is clearly indicated in section 73 of the prisons act of 2006,” said Baine before adding that;
“When we are talking about Ho Rukutana, his profile designates that he is held in a maximum-security prison because of the profile of the case, his profile as a person and accessing the situation as it is, it is deemed fit that he be kept in a maximum-security prison until he is done with his case.”
In the background, the conditions include the security, the profile of the inmate, the profile of the case and the level of the prison in the location of where this case was committed.”
Rukutana was arrested by a joint force of the army and police following allegations of shooting Dan Rweburungi in a vicious election exercise for NRM flag bearer for Rushenyi county.
