The Army and Police have arrested more than 50 people, said to be part of the private security detail for Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, one of the contestants in the Sheema Municipality NRM Primaries, due on Friday.

Those arrested were found in several hotels in Kabwohe town.

However, on Tuesday, the minister refuted claims those were part of his security detail.

Security in the district has been tightened ahead of elections on Friday.

According to the Resident District Commissioner Sheema, Frank Kyerere these people were arrested for causing violence.

“We have managed to arrest about 50 people but as I speak now we have beefed up security in the area to prevent any future chaos,” he said .

However, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye refuted any claim of having a private security team.

“They have hired goons; they are the ones causing violence. They are exciting people at the polling stations,” he said.
