River Nile Boat Accident: One Dead As UPDF Rescues Three Tourists

UPDF Marine Unit yesterday evening rescued 3 tourists whose boat capsized as they sailed along River Nile in Jinja.

One person has been confirmed dead and the three rescued have been taken to hospital for treatment.

The accident happened near Kiira Dam in Jinja.

The accident happened when a boat on which the tourists were sailing on got an engine malfunction and fast flowing water skewed the boat towards Kira dam in Jinja.

The body of the deceased has been discovered.

Eskom Uganda Limited that manages Kiira dam has released a statement on the incident.

It is worth noting that as of July 2020, Lake Victoria levels recorded 13.42M surpassing the highest recorded lake level of 13.41M on 12/05/1964.

Eskom Uganda Limited decided to do water spilling at 2,400 CM/Sec for both Nalubaale and Kiira hydro power stations.
