State Minister for East African Affairs Julius Maganda over the weekend survived being shot by a UPDF soldier who allegedly attempted to block the minister from accessing Omenya landing site in Busia.
The minister had planned to hold a meeting at the landing site ahead of the NRM primaries that will be held this Friday September 4, 2020.
Minister Maganda also said that the UPDF solider who wanted to shoot him was drunk or high on some substances.
He narrated the ordeal as;
The character and indiscipline of the solider; I think he doesn’t deserve to work with the UPDF because UPDF has very disciplined soldiers.
At my level as a Member of Parliament and also having introduced myself that I am a minister in this government, that was enough for him to appreciate.
Where I was going, he saw people under the tree waiting for me, that was enough but the rection when he saw me by pointing a gun me, shooting at GISO who had briefed him earlier, somewhere there was a bigger influence.
What is most important is that we have reported to security and put a case at police.
They also damaged my motorcycle and my speaker which I was using and mounted on the motorcycle.
Other motorcycles of other people who were waiting for me, he hit them and we had to withdraw.
We did that because a person of that level who was drunk or high could do anything and we had to withdraw because we understand the officers of UPDF when someone is on high level and we don’t know what he took, he can easily hurt you.
