We Don’t Entertain Violence in NRM- Tanga Odoi

1 Mins read

The NRM electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi has warned  NRM candidates in party primaries should control their supporters or else risk having the elections postponed or even candidates disqualified.

His comments follow clashes between the supporters of the incumbent Woman MP Harriet Busingye and her rival Beatrice Wembabazi.

Odoi issued the warning while in Hoima as he investigated the circumstances under which the supporter of Wembabazi was beaten into a coma by the driver of her rival.

“If any of you to campaign is using the president name, please this should be the last time. Any mess between now and 3rd September 2020 when you can’t control your crowd, we shall postpone this election,”he threatened.

The NRM primaries will take place on September 4th 2020.

Odoi tasked the Hoima district Executive Committee to settle the standoff between the candidates seeking to carry the party flag for the district Woman MP position.

He said if the district fails to mediate, the party will postpone primaries for the district Woman MP race.

Dr Odoi cited ego, mudslinging, fake voter registers, and attempts by incumbent MPs to block new entrants as the major causes of all these chaos among the party candidates across the country.

He said the person who has beaten up the Wembabazi’s supporter should be brought to book.

“He must be brought to order, he must answer. Politics of crowd must stop, we as the party we have to follow COVID-19 standard operating procedures. If we do this and People Power do the same. How shall we stop them,” he queried.

He warned that any aspirant who will not abide by the party rules will be disqualified.
