In March, President Museveni closed a number of places of mass gathering in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
These included churches, mosques, schools, arcades among many others.
However in a way to partially lift the lock down, some arcades were allowed to operate starting in Mid July as long as they followed the SOPs provided by the Ministry of Health to avoid the rampant spread of COVID-19 in Uganda,
Unfortunately, many people have become more relaxed in following the SOPs.
This has caused an increased in cases recorded in Kampala alone.
This morning, Uganda media centre has released a list of arcades that are not following SOPs to warn the public to become more cautious when they are around them.
These arcades are: Mini Price centre, Vienna Business centre, Boost complex, Arro complex, Naiga Chambers, Tropical complex, Senna arcade, Masaka Jubilee, SB plaza, King Fahd, Sun City arcade, Lucky complex, Sserwaniko Music centre, Faibah arcade, City centre complex, MM plaza, Majestic plaza, Namaganda plaza, Freeman foundation centre, MBK spare centre, and Energy centre.
According to the statement released by Uganda Media Centre, the listed arcades did not observe social distancing, they had no functional toilets , they had a lot of obstruction in the corridors and poor ventilation which risks the spread of COVID-19.
It is likely if the number of cases recorded in the city centre increase, government might have to reclose arcades until the situation is more stable.
