5 Soldiers, 2 Policemen Remanded For Spying For Rwanda

Five soldiers and two police men have been remanded to Makindye military prison for sharing sensitive security information with Rwanda agents.

The remanded police men are Benon Akandwanaho and the Frank Sabiiti.

The soldiers are Lt Alex Kasamula, Lt Phillip Ankunda, Pte Nathan Ndwaine, Pte Moses Asiimwe and Pte Godfrey Mugabi.

Lt Gen Andrew Gutti, the court martial boss, remanded the suspects to Makindye military prison until August 31.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Prosecution alleges that between February and May in various parts of Kampala, the accused and others still at large shared various security information with agents of the Rwandan government with intent to prejudice Uganda’s security.

If found guilty, their charges can attract a death sentence.
