COVID-19 Cases Jump to 1,000 in Uganda

The ministry of health has confirmed 23 new cases of covid19 from 3,316 samples that were tested on 8th July 2020. This brings the accumulated confirmed cases of the pandemic in the country to 1000.

According to Dr Henry G. Webesa who is the Director General Health Services at the Ministry of Health 23 confirmed cases ,12 are Uganda nationals who returned from abroad, 8 are from Afghanistan, 3 are from DRC and 1 from South Sudan.

Dr Mwebesa said that these people were at the quarantine centre at the time of carrying out the test. 

He also noted that out of 31 foreign truck drivers, 24 Kenyans, 3 Tanzanians,2 Congolese, 1 Rwandan and 1 South Sudanese tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points and their  entry into the country was not permitted.

He noted that these are truck drivers who arrived via Mutukula, Afoji and Madi Opei points of entry while 8 are contacts and alerts, 4 from Tororo and 4 from Hoima, Kyotera and Arua districts. 

“To date Uganda has registered a total of 908 covid19 recoveries,these include both Ugandans and non Ugandans who were admitted here because they could not be repatriated immediately and no covid19 related death recorded,” Dr. Mwebesa said.

He noted that a total of 3,316 test were carried out today bringing the accumulative total of samples to 219,627.
