The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Party has nominated Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu as its Presidential flag bearer for 2021 presidential elections having gone un-opposed.
Despite being very young in the field of politics ,the party has demonstrated that it is ready to battle it out with the best of the opposition.
Gen Muntu’s nomination has been announced on Wednesday at the party headquarters in Kampala , few days after he resigned his role as party national coordinator.
In his acceptance speech, Muntu noted that the party will give Uganda a feasibility in the global political map because of its tried and tested principle of governance.
He noted that he will avoid seeking self advancement other than that of the country noting that he will majorly focus on building the party.
“We must depend on the strength of the system and institutions that is the path we intend to walk .we shall not shout but we intend to deliberate and we are purposeful,” he said.
He said that Uganda’s education system mainly focus on academics but does not concentrate on the area where a human being can be made whole to have a character.
“To know that an integrity is an important part of our society. Education sector is another area which has a lot of problems. If you don’t have money, you can’t survive in our country. Many people die because they don’t have money to access health services,” he said.
He said that since agriculture is a back born of Uganda ,there is also need to put more concentration in the area.
On the issue of fronting a joint candidate come 2021, Muntu said that it is desirable to have a sole candidate in order to dislodge president Museveni from power.
He explained that the party has no friction with any political parties even though without any formal working relationship noting that the discussions are ongoing to ensure a joint presidential candidate.
“We all need to work together and I hope we will achieve that. We must not forget that we are seeking cooperation so that we can take power, “he said.
Muntu also urged the young people to vacate urban areas and go to their respective villages so that they are able offer leadership at that level.
He stressed that as opposition, they will not accept the idea of digital campaigns and they intend to speak to all the stakeholders on the way forward.
The deputy Electrol Commission of the party, Dan Mugarura said that the nomination was transparent and other contender felt that Muntu is the right person to lead the party to the promise land.
He said Muntu had filled a list of requirements before qualifying for the nomination.
Gen Muntu launched the party in May last year after leaving the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), in what he said was one of his efforts to unseat President Museveni who has ruled Uganda for more than three decades.
According to the roadmap, registration and picking of nomination forms for the party’s flag-bearer was conducted between June 22 and 25 while verification of nomination qualification documents was done between June 26 and 29.
