The People Power movement has unveiled fresh guidelines on who will be eligible to don the movement colours and logos in the forthcoming general election. The pressure group noted that it is going to screen whoever is joining the pressure group to avoid moles.
The People Power movement Electoral Committee also declared that only candidates selected by the committee will be permitted to stand on the People Power ticket.
While addressing the media on Tuesday, the leader of the pressure group, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine said that the movement has started electrol processes and preparations with the objective of winning the Presidential elections by more than 75%, a parliamentary majority of 75% and control local government chairpersonship and Councils.
“Therefore, we call upon, all interested People Power candidates intending to vie for any political office leaning to People Power and pursuing interests of all the oppressed, concerned, and common Ugandans Come 2021 for parliamentary, local government, and special interest group elections, to inform us by filling and submitting their expression of interest forms,”he said.
Kyagulanyi urged all the members to coordinate and agree with one another noting only one candidate will be allowed to run on the People Power ticket.
He however noted that although the preparation is underway ahead of 2021,the Movement is not ready for scientific elections.
“We have heard Mr. Byabakama and his group working on the orders of Mr
Museveni and we continue to tell them that we are not going to go by your thoughts. We are not going to go by your illegal plans.we are following the law, “he said.
The electrol management committee chairperson,Mercy Walukamba, said candidates have to be screened and vetted saying that expression of interest is not a confirmation.
“Expression of Interest should not be construed as confirmation of People Power flag bearership as candidates have to apply, be Screened/Vetted, Confirmed and Unveiled to the public for recognition and support by all the oppressed, concerned, and common Ugandans,”she said.
She noted that the Committee reserves all rights to declare People Power flag bearers.
