NO LONGER AT EASE! Suspicion Mounts In People Power As Top Bobi Wine Lieutenants Defect To M7 Camp

2 Mins read

All is not well in political pressure group People Power led by Kyadondo East lawmaker, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine after it’s top digital mobilisers announced their defection to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

On Tuesday, social media was set a light after two of Bobi Wine’s top lieutenants led by Ashburg Kato posted pictures of themselves with President Yoweri Museveni at their meeting early this year, breaking the hearts of many loyal People Power supporters.

We have since learnt that Kato and his colleagues met with Museveni early this year at the latter’s Kisozi ranch where he agreed to denounce Bobi Wine and pledge allegiance to the president going into the 2021 general elections. Bobi has declared his intentions to challenge Museveni.

Before his defection, Kato had been one of Bobi Wine’s top online mobilisers and had made his name for attacking anyone who dared to criticise the People Power supremo.

Kato is not the only blogger who has since denounced support for Bobi, Ray Supasta also announced that he had quit the pressure group and revealed how he had gotten two cows as a token of appreciation. Kato got five.

Many say, the two could have quit due to issues of bread and butter, something that was confirmed by Ray after he bragged about getting two cows that his now former boss hadn’t given him. As a sign of his new loyalty, Kato now uses Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the first son as his profile picture.

People Power is now plagued with suspicion with many wondering who else of Bobi’s so called staunch supporters could follow suit.

“There is a lot of suspicion, many are speaking in hushed tones, whispers and beginning to question loyalty of their fellow supporters. Bobi and most of them now dont know who to trust,” a source told us of Bobi.

The group has since started a campaign to unfollow Kato’s pages. Since his announcement, Kato’s Facebook followers have reduced from 128k to 123k.

However, some People Power supporters claim the damage of Kato’s departure may not be far reaching as he had already been relegated to the periphery and not trusted with the group’s political secrets on how they intend to dislodge Museveni who has been in power since 1986.

Their defection is said to brokered by events guru Balaam Barugahare who is said to be recruiting social influencers for Museveni’s cause. Museveni’s camp hopes to crash Bobi Wine’s Ghetto support with their recruitment. Kato has vowed to ‘retrieve the ghetto’ for Museveni.
