Anger as Health Ministry Delays Release of Current COVID-19 Case Count

1 Mins read

Social media woke to an uprising as Ministry of Health in conjunction with Uganda Virus research Institute (UVRI) failed to update the country on the current Coronavirus cases as of Sunday.

It has been a norm that the ministry releases COVID-19 case count at the end of each day, but this was not the case for Sunday 17 May 2020 which caused social media users to rant.

The Ministry however made a statement through their twitter account.

“@MinofHealthUG has noted fake results being communicated by unknown persons.
This is to inform the public that MoH did not release results yesterday. Following the Presidential directive of only allowing in truck drivers who test negative, samples had to be sorted appropriately,” the statement read in part.

The Ministry went ahead to assert that Truck Drivers that test positive will be rushed to the hospital.

“Ugandan truck drivers who test positive will be evacuated directly to hospitals.
Samples had to be divided between UVRI and @UNHLS1 for quick turn around time.Testing at NHLS started at 7.30pm last evening. Results will be communicated shortly,” the statement on Twitter read.
