30 Police Officers Graduate In Music

A total of 30 Police officers from Uganda Police Band have been awarded with certificates in music in a function officiated by The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sabiiti Muzeyi at The Uganda Police Band Headquarters in Nsambya on 17th March 2020.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police congratulated the graduands upon completion of the six-month course which involved a lot of sacrifice and hard work.

The Deputy IGP also promised to offer all the necessary support to the department to enable it operate smoothly and achieve its objectives.

“We shall offer you all the support needed in order to operate and develop your career, even the expansion policy at regional level will be looked into.” He said.

This was after the Acting Director Music Dance and Drama Superintendent of police Okwi Okedi revealed that there is need to establish regional headquarters to reduce on ware and tear of the instruments, time wastage and resources.

So far only one centre is operational which is based in North Kyoga Region and more are expected to be established.

The Deputy IGP also urged the officers to work hard, love their country and ensure that there is peace in the country.

He appreciated the fact that they learned Swahili a widely growing language that is spoken in East and Central Africa that will help to unite with our neighbours.

Okwi also revealed that the unit is planning to open up a studio and an academy for talent development that will help in job creation and growth of talent on those that may get an opportunity to be trained. He therefore asked for support through the Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Out of the 30 graduands 05 are female and 25 male.

They finished the music course from Kampala Music School which is examined by The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) based in London, United Kingdom.

The practical exams saw the officers graduate in different grades and in different instruments like; Trumpet, tenor Saxophone, Piano, Trombone, Tuba, E Flat Horn among others.
