Gun shots in Mulago to disperse people power supporters, patients put in danger

1 Mins read

Yesterday afternoon, loud gun shots could be heard from Mulago as police tried to disperse people power supporters.  They were furious about the death of their own, a one Ritah Nabukenya who was run over by a police truck in Nakawa.

On reaching Mulago, the people power officials were denied access to her body and this led to exchanges between them and the police. The police fired gunshots and tire gas everywhere to avoid the angry crowd. These were extended into the hospital and caused chaos as not even the patients were excused from this violence.

Some patients were transferred to other wards to avoid the noise and the teargas which could be a trigger to worse conditions. The medical students’ day was also disrupted and classes halted. This led to commotion around the hospital and some of the patients were misheld by the police.

The police also blocked the Mulago roads which led to a lot of traffic jam in Wandegeya and along Kira road. The people power officials’ were later allowed access to the late Ritah’s body which will be transported to their offices to pay last respects by her colleagues
