President Museveni Opens International Conference on Implementing Land Information System

President Yoweri Museveni has today opened an International Conference on the Implementation of Land Information Systems with a call on land policy experts to plan for a multidimensional economy based on all sectors of the economy citing agriculture, industry, ICT and services among others that will have an impact on the county’s growth and development .

“Therefore when you are planning for the land, plan for how it will cope with this new waking up. How it will cater for the 4 sectors of wealth. Commercial agriculture, industry, services and ICT” he said.

President Museveni noted that when dealing with land matters and making policies  should bear in mind that they are dealing with a society that has suffered from Stunted growth since the continent did not fully metamorphosis in the industrial Revolutions .

“ You are dealing with African societies are suffering from stunted growth. They have not gone through industrial revolution” he added.

The President therefore called on the policy makers to worktowards providing  stimuli for those societies to grow. 

The President was today speaking during the opening of the international conference on the implementation of the land Information systems at  Protea hotel in Entebbe.

The conference that Run under the theme : Global Modernization of Land Administration- Making your LIS a success, seeks to bring it together key Ugandan stakeholders and other professionals including Surveyors, Bankers and Lawyers to share experiences , innovations and good practices in the design, supply , installation and implementation of the National Land Information systems.

The Ministry of Lands , Housing band Urban Development is engaged in a process of  computerizing land information system that has decentralised governance with 22 one stop Ministry Zonal offices operational across Uganda.

Mr  Museveni further noted the need to conserve  environment noting that the biggest wealth Uganda has is very good clinate , urging policy exoerts to plan uncompromisingly on the environment by protecting  the shoreline of the lake and river banks.

He congratulated the world Bank for helping with the computerization of the land. 

The Minister of Lands ,Hon. Betty Kamya , saluted the President for accepting theinvitation saying that the Presidents’ personal presence is an affirmation that there is political will to have land related Matters handled once and for all.
