Uganda Quarantines 100 People Over Coronavirus

1 Mins read

Uganda’s health ministry says more than 100 people remain in quarantine as a preventative measure against the possible spread of coronavirus.

Uganda has not recorded any suspected cases of the virus.

The ministry announced on Wednesday that those affected had arrived from China through the Entebbe International Airport and included 44 Chinese nationals.

They will be monitored for 14 days by surveillance officers, Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said.

Some are quarantined at two hospitals in Entebbe and the capital, Kampala, while others have been asked to stay home as health officials continue to monitor them.

There is a significant amount of travel and trade between China and Uganda.

The health ministry says it has stepped up checks at all major entry points into the country, though flights to and from China have not yet been cancelled.

Officials say they do not have any evacuation plans for Ugandans living in China.

Some 70 Ugandan students have been confirmed to be living in China’s Wuhan city, the epicentre of the outbreak.
