1 Mins read

At about 5 this morning, an unidentified man suspected to be a thief was shot dead by an askari at Landmark Hostel in Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

The suspected thief was, according to onlookers, trying to climb the balcony of the said hostel of MUBS causing the residents who saw him to scream. The askari then rushed to the scene and immediately shot him dead.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, three thugs had already broken into the mentioned hostel and stole property belonging to MUBS female students. Owoyesigyire added that the shot thug tried to disarm the hostel’s guard who instead over powered him before shooting him dead.

“The robbers used master keys to force open the doors and access rooms for two female students stealing laptops and phones. He ordered them to stop but instead, one of the thugs allegedly turned against him and attempted to disarm him.” Owoyesigyire said.

“The guard amidst a lot of struggle managed to overpower the suspected thug and shot him. One laptop and 4 mobile phones that had been stolen from the students’ rooms have been recovered and identified by the owners.” Owoyesigyire narrated further.

Owoyesigyire also explained that the gun belonging to the shooter (guard) has been recovered but it was  partially damaged.

As investigations into the matter continue, the Police Force is still hunting for the two other suspects that took off from the scene. The trio’s identity is still unknown.
