The security at Makerere has been beefed up ahead of the university’s 70th graduation ceremony scheduled to begin tomorrow, Tuesday January 14th.
Many police officers have been deployed at the university to maintain “order” following a students’ demonstration over delayed graduation gowns.
The armed officers have been spotted on several streets of the university making sure that no one stirs up chaos.
Only 7000 graduation gowns have arrived yet the total number of this year’s graduands is over 13000. The affected graduands who protested today morning have compared the situation of wearing casual outfits to a wedding ceremony where the bride does not have a wedding gown.
Some of the bitter students have revealed that the gown is way more important than the academic transcript. However, the latest communication from Makerere indicates that all graduands will have their gowns before their respective graduation days.
