Busoga United FC and Uganda Cranes forward Joel Madondo has this afternoon completed his dream move to Morocco top side Wydad Athletic Club. Madondo travelled to Morocco earlier ahead of the move to the top tier flight club.
Joel Madondo joins the Moroccan giants on a three-and-a-half-year deal, which expires in June 2023, for an undisclosed fee. According to our highly placed sources, Madondo has been signed to replace Ayoub Khabi who left Wydad Athletic Club for greener pastures in China at Hebei China Fortune F.C.
This is the second time Madondo moves out of the country seeking better opportunities. His first attempt to join Ümraniyespor, a Turkish side located in Ümraniye, Istanbul in mid-2019 didn’t come through and he had to return home in time for the 2019/20 Star Times Uganda Premier League kick-off.
In his most recent international conquests, Madondo scored the last goal in Uganda Cranes’ 3-0 win over Eritrea at the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup finals.
Joel Madondo’s signing has been sighted by soccer pundits as an influence by Uganda Cranes former head coach, Sébastien Desabre, who enjoys a very cordial relationship with Wydad Athletic Club and is most likely return to Casablanca soon. Desabre has already recommended KCCA FC’s Allan Okello and SC Vipers’ Fahad Bayo.
Joel Madondo is a former student of St Mary’s Kitende, Bishop McAllister, Risah Standard and Jinja SSS that he helped lift the 2017 Copa Coca-Cola championship in Masaka. He was then promoted to the senior team by Coach Charles Ayieko in the 2017/18 season and his best tally was in 2018/19 where he netted 13 goals in Star Times Uganda Premier League.
Madondo becomes the second player from Busoga United F.C. to go abroad for greener pastures after Isaac Isinde who left in for India November 2019.
