The Public Health Ambassadors Uganda (PHAU) have today conducted the Public Health Youth Symposium (PHYS) now in it’s 3rd edition at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.
The Symposium is under the theme “Opportunities and Challenges of Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Regards to Young People’s Sexual and Reproductive Health in Uganda.”
Speakers at the event focused on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Uganda with emphasis to teenage pregnancy, and Universal Health Care with no limit to emergency contraception and abortion.
Giving the key note speech on behalf of the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Dr. Jessica Nsugwa emphasized the measures being taken to avert challenges like double disease burden.
“There are challenges beyond funds like the double disease burden in which Non Communicable Diseases contribute 40%. We are only focusing on the curative measures leaving no room for preventive mechanisms that could stop us from treatment expenditure in the first place,” Dr. Jessica said.
The Public Health Youth Symposium (PHYS) is an avenue for public health practitioners and professionals to communicate connect and collaborate on pertinent public health needs and challenges at local national and international levels.
It is a gathering of public health practitioners and partners from government, academia, civil society organizations and the corporates that share a common interest and dedication in protecting, preventing and promoting the health of the populations in Uganda.
