1 Mins read

Members of Parliament that belong to the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Caucus have agreed to support the 15% tuition increment policy at Makerere University after a meeting with President Museveni at State House, Entebbe yesterday.

The MPs made the resolution after a presentation by the Minister of Education and Sports and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni on why the tuition increment needs to be maintained at the Ivory Tower.

In her speech, the First Lady emphasized that the increment only affects first year students and argued that they’re not complaining about the increment. She also said that there was bench marking by students before they recommended the policy to management.

She presented that research was done across East Africa and Makerere University tuition was discovered to be the lowest as compared to among other the University of Dar-es-salaam, the University of Nairobi and the University of Kigali.
