PLE Underway, 6 Arrested For Selling Fake Exams

As the Primary Leaving Examinations kick off today, about six people have been cited and arrested over the sell of fake exams to schools and pupils with a promise of having them pass with bright colors.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and the police have arrested six people suspected of being involved in examination malpractice.

Police and other security agencies uncovered the culprits in Kireka soliciting over shs 10m from schools. UNEB confirmed the arrests ahead of the start of the Primary Leaving exams on Monday.

Those arrested include; Eliphaz Magara, Michael Mulindwa, Joshua Mazinga, Francis Walakira, Stephen Ofumbi, and Tonny Okwenyi.

James Turyatemba, the officer-in-charge of national examinations, said the suspects were arrested at the weekend in areas of Namungoona, Namugongo, Mukono, Nsangi, Wakiso, and Masaka.

“In this process, a number of unscrupulous people who have been dealing in fake PLE papers which they purport to be the real UNEB examination papers have been arrested,” Turyatemba said.

“These unethical people have been collecting large sums of money from unsuspecting Ugandans from various schools with a promise that they will deliver to them genuine UNEB PLE papers,” he added.

Turyatemba said that by the time of their arrest, UNEB had not released any Primary Leaving Examinations to the field.

Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson, said the arrest brings to 10 the number of those caught for allegedly engaging in exam malpractice.

The Primary Leaving Examinations kick off Monday with 695,700 candidates.
