Troy Wamala Sent to Serve 13 years in Prison For Killing Legend Mowzey Radio

After close to two years of investigations, the High Court in Entebbe has sentenced Godfrey ‘Troy’ Wamala, to 13 years imprisonment for killing singer Moses Ssekibogo, also known as Mowzey Radio to 13 years imprisonment.

Legendary Mowzey Radio died of his injuries at Case Hospital in Kampala on February 1, 2018, after a brawl at De Bar, a popular hangout in Entebbe Town, on January 22, 2018 but a few days later, Troy was arrested while in hiding in Kyengera, along the Kampala- Masaka Highway.

Last week, Lady Justice Jane Abodo convicted Troy of a lesser offence of manslaughter after evidence showing that despite being at the crime scene, the accused didn’t have malice aforethought to kill the vocal singer.

On Thursday morning, Justice Abodo sentenced Wamala to 13 years and three months imprisonment.

“I have considered the fact that convict is a first offender, relatively young man capable of reforming but let temper get a better part of him and ended the life of a talented and youthful musician which was a horrible thing. I therefore sentence the convict to a term of 13 years, three months and four days,” Justice Abodo said.

The judge had sentenced him to 14 years but deducted the one year and eight months period he has spent on remand since his arrest earlier in 2018.

Troy Wamala however survived the maximum life imprisonment sentence for the charge of manslaughter that he was convicted of.

According to the Penal Code, any person who by an unlawful act or omission causes the death of another person commits the felony termed manslaughter.

The Penal Code also defines an unlawful omission as an omission amounting to culpable negligence to discharge a duty tending to the preservation of life or health, whether such omission is or is not accompanied by an intention to cause death or bodily harm.

The law also says that a person who is convicted of manslaughter is liable to imprisonment for life.
