The US secretary for Health and Human Services has hailed the Uganda Virus Rsearch institute for setting up infrastructures that have played a key role in the fight against the spread of ebola disease from Eastern DRC Boarder to Uganda.
Alex Azar made the remarks in Entebbe on Tuesday while addressing the gathering at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe after concluding his two day visit to Uganda.
Azar also commended Deborah Malac, the USA Ambassador to Uganda for establishing a close relationship with the government of Uganda and awarded her a token of deep appreciation in recognition for her tremendous work rendered to the people of Uganda.
The Minister of health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, said the collaboration between the US government and the government of Uganda has helped the government to support a number of areas including the fight against HIV spread and tuberculosis among others.
Aceng hailed Azar for paying a courtesy visit to the National Emergency Center in Kampala, the National Health Institute of Public Health and the fishermen at Kasenyi fishing site who are benefiting from ARVs.Prof. Pontiano Kalebu, the Executive Director Uganda Virus Research Institute, urged government agencies to continue partnering and funding health activities since they play a key role in the region.
