Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago Dragged to Court For Firing Land Board Member

1 Mins read

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been dragged to the High Court for illegally terminating the contract of one of the members of the Kampala District Land Board, Ntege Farouk.

Farouk says that he is still a member of the land board having been appointed in February 2016 on a five- year tenure by the Kampala Minister but notes that in a letter dated August 12, 2019, Lukwago terminated his membership.

Through his lawyers, Nabukenya, Mularira and Company Advocates, Ntege has run to the Civil Division of the High Court seeking for interim orders stopping the Kampala Lord Mayor from terminating his appointment to the Kampala District Land Board and forcing him to apply afresh for the job which is now vacant.

“I am still a member of the Kampala District Land Board a constitutional body established to look after public land in Kampala with a valid running tenure expiring on February 1, 2019 and the second respondent’s letter constitutes a big threat to my holding and continued occupation of the said office is not restrained by an interim order,” Ntege said.

He also noted that the letter by the Kampala Lord Mayor is against the provisions of the law, illegal and riddled with procedural impropriety.

The court is set to hear the application for the interim order today, Tuesday before the main is heard later.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is also attached as a respondent on the suit.
