Former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has urged youth to change their mindset in order to unleash themselves from what he described as “state of captivity.”
While addressing Wakiso youth league’s annual conference held at Namboole over the weekend under the theme, “a focused and active youth for the 2nd liberation struggle”, Besigye noted that youth should embraced the party ideologies because the aim of the party is to cause change.
“If you don’t know where you are heading, you won’t be able to accomplish your dreams,“he said.
He further urged youth to set goals with the hope of accomplishing them no matter any calamity that befalls them.
“You have to be sure of what you want, if you face any obstacle, find a way of overcoming it but keep on pursuing your dreams,” he said.
He also told the youth that defiance is not illegal as long as they are defying illegal orders.
“We must know our rights and fight to defend them. Don’t think that everything is okay, believe in yourself that this country is yours, that’s the most important step,” Besigye emphasized.
He told the youth to think of the possible ways of liberating this country as a united force.
“Never fight alone, all the battles must be done as a united force and this is the only way of winning a battle,” he said.
He noted that a lot of efforts have been done to see that the country is free from captivity. “There are some people saying dialogue is the best way but we have tried. I have been tortured, my property stolen. Can a cat dialogue with a rat?” he asked.
He however, urged the youth to keep law and order by obeying good laws and resisting bad orders well as not being quiet about oppression.
