Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has cautioned government to stop using threats and intimidations to curtain the freedom of expression among Ugandans who are using different platforms to express their concerns and grievances.
While addressing journalists at the party headquarters, Wasswa Birigwa, the FDC National Chairperson noted that government should instead address the issues and grievances that have caused anger among the population such as increasing unemployment and unequal distribution of resources among others.
“Our politics is in such a state that those in power are not listening, having more guns, having LDUs all over the country, having CCTV cameras all over the country will not make this nation safe,” he noted.
He appealed to the authority to handle and address the grievances of the people than infringing in their freedom of speech when trying to express their concerns about a particular issue.
He urged people to start thinking about each other and make sure that everyone is secure because it’s the only way to make the nation safe.
“For me I am safe because of my neighbours, friends and relatives, the nation will not be safe until we begin to think of each other. I think this nation will be safe” he said.
He further added that there are ongoing talks between people’s government led by Dr Kizza Besigye and People Power a political pressure group led by Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine
“We shall come out with a statement in future but we are willing and looking forward to working with all other groups as long as their interest is to see that the regime goes,” he said.
