The Chief Executive Officer, Uganda Tourism Board, Lilly Ajarova has joined the list of other prominent Ugandans who have voiced out their objection to the giving out of Murchison falls to an investor to generate electricity by Electricity Regulatory Authority.
Speaking to the media on Thursday in Kampala, Ajarova noted that destruction of Murchison falls is the destruction of tourism which earns the country so much foreign exchange.
“The experience of Murchison falls can be done from different points, one, you a boat to the bottom of the falls. Two, there is a trend where you walk up to the top of falls and it is just an amazing view, “she said.
She described the Murchison experience as being exceptional and it has been one of the exceptional natural features in Uganda.
“The proposals to get Hydroelectric power develop on that falls, from the tourism point of view is a bad idea,” she noted.
She urged all the Ugandans protesting the move to join the formal fight by writing to Electricity Regulatory Authority showing why sanctity of the national assets must be protected.
“If you feel ERA should not move ahead with this project then put it in writing and officially submit your objection to them, “she said.
She further added that writing to Electricity Regulatory Authority is the only way they will be able to know that what the public feel is, what the different stake holders feel about this project.
“The most important thing is, let’s make it formal so that we can ensure that Murchison falls continues to be, “she said.
