President Yoweri Museveni has said that no one will disturb peace in Uganda.

He was speaking at the celebrations marking the National Women’s Day held today at Rwimi Primary School in Bunyangabu District in the Rwenzori Sub-Region in Western Uganda.

The theme of the celebrations was ‘Empowering Women Through Innovative Approaches to Social Protection; a Prerequisite for Inclusive and Sustainable Development.’

“No one will disturb the peace in Uganda. The peace will be maintained. The ADF are in Congo and the conflict will remain there. Whoever wants to cause conflict in Kasese, will not manage. ADF cannot come here so do not be scared,” he reiterated.

The President who started the day’s events by commissioning the new Bunyangabu District headquarters block also presented a medal to Quiin Abenakyo while the rest of the medal recipients received theirs from Parliamentary Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.

He presented a medal to the beauty Quiin Abenakyo. The rest of the medalists were awarded by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

He said He called on the farmers not to be discouraged by thieves who have specialised in stealing items such as bananas, vanilla and coffee. He advised them to call the Police who have the task of deploying dogs to apprehend the criminals.

He declared war the thieves who are obstructing Wananchi in efforts to eradicate poverty.

President Museveni directed the Police to establish hot telephone lines that are to ease the efforts of curbing crime.

He assured the gathering that Government will provide the Police transport to ensure speedy service of the canine unit.

He informed the celebrants that CCTV cameras have been installed in Kampala adding that all the major roads would also be equipped with similar cameras.

He added that Government would install trackers in all motor vehicles at the cost of the owners.

 He commended the leaders of the new Bunyangabu district for utilising well ush 700 million for the construction of the district headquarters out of ush 900 million that Government allocated.

He said that they were a leading example of officers working without stealing funds.

President Museveni said that the Government would revive copper mining in Kilembe, Kasese district soon.

He revealed that plans were underway to establish an industrial park in Kyembogo, Kabarole District.

He warned the people against following sectarian tendencies when electing their leaders.

He said that such practice would create divisions among the people. He asked them to vote for people who have got capacity to serve.

He gave out donations of cows to the Bunyangabu women councillors.

The Minister of Gender Janat Mukwaya called on the women to continue supporting the Government programmes.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Rosa Malango commended the Government for empowering women.

The Ambassador of Norway to Uganda H.E. Susan Eckey congratulated the women up-on celebrating their day.

She thanked the women for their efforts towards ensuring that Uganda is a better place.

The Chairperson of the Uganda National Women’s Council…………………….. saluted President Museveni for commissioning the women’s hospital in Mulago.

She noted that it would go a long way towards ensuring better health for the women.

She thanked him for enabling the Women’s Fund that has benefited over 117,000 women.

She said that they have accessed affordable credit. She was pleased to note that   34% of businesses in the country belong to women.
