Busoga MPs Embark On Plans To Develop Busoga

1 Mins read

Legislators from Busoga sub-region led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, have undertaken to work towards the socio-economic transformation of Busoga.

While briefing the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope, the Speaker said the Members of Parliament from the region were committed to supporting the Busoga Consortium, which is charged with developing the region that has been lagging behind.

The meeting, which took place at the King’s palace in Bugembe, Jinja District, was meant to appraise the Kyabazinga’s about the work of the Consortium.

Kadaga said all efforts by the stakeholders are directed towards harnessing Busoga’s natural resource endowments, development potential and opportunities.

“We want to see Busoga and Jinja return to its former glory; an industrial and commercial hub,” she noted.

Kadaga added that the Consortium would launch the Busoga Development Agenda as a blueprint for exploiting the region’s development opportunities.

Ambassador Agnes Kalibala, the technical head of the Development Agenda, said the programme is hinged on six development pillars.

“We have education and skills development; commercialisation of farming; tourism, culture and heritage; development of road infrastructure; industrialisation; and elevation of Jinja to a city status,” she added.

Kalibala explained that a detailed master plan is to be developed to support the implementation of the Consortium.

The Kyabazinga was elated to see leaders working in unity for the development of Busoga sub-region.

“As leaders in Busoga, we need to pick up the mantle, unite and work hard towards improving our people’s livelihoods,” he said.

He emphasized that issues that negatively affect the region should not be overlooked.

“Please deal with the issue of teenage pregnancy, early marriages, high rate of school dropouts and domestic violence,” he said.
