Former MP Kipoi Denied Bail

1 Mins read

High Court judge, Jane Francis Abodo has on Monday 13th February 2018 denied to grant bail to former Bubulo West MP, Hon Tonny Kipoi Nsubuga.

Kipoi failed to turn up for a scheduled bail hearing in the high court on Monday 13th and also failed to provide any communication, only the applicant lawyer Ronald Iduuli was present.

Kipoi had applied for bail pending the hearing of his trial in the General Court Martial.

Justice Abodo dismissed the application on grounds that Kipoi is being charged with a great offence related to security before the General Court martial, which High Court has jurisdiction to hear his bail application.

The judge added that for High Court to grant bail to the former MP, the matter must be before this same court or in a lower court under its jurisdiction.

However, applicant lawyer Ronald Iduuli while addressing journalists expressed discontent on how the case was handled.

“This the highest case of human violation I have ever handled since i joined this legal practice,” he added

On 3rd February 2018, Kipoi was apprehended in Botswana on allegations of masquerading as a witch doctor and was deported back to Uganda.

Kipoi is currently detained at Makindye Military barracks.
